Hasil Adkins is an independent music writing project, named after the West Virginia one-man band who never played by anyone else’s rules. We publish long-form album reviews and
listening notes about records that reward repeat plays — electronic, post-rock, minimalism, indie
and everything that sits awkwardly between those labels.
How we write about records
Every review is written after living with the album, not after a single pass. We describe what a
record actually sounds like and where it sits in an artist’s catalogue, rather than assigning it a
score out of ten. If a record did not work for us, we say why, and we try to be specific about it.
Listening notes
Alongside reviews we keep a running set of notes: retrospectives on artists we keep returning to,
pieces about how listening habits change over the years, and the occasional detour into books,
bicycles and whatever else is on the desk at the time.
Corrections
Release details, label names and personnel credits are checked against the physical release
where we own it. If you spot an error, tell us and we will fix it in place and note the change.
